Be Prepared for Bug Season

Spring is Here!

There are a lot of good things about spring. Flowers start to bloom. The weather gets warmer. You can break out the grill, open up the curtains, let in the light, and enjoy the weather. However, spring is also the season where eggs start to hatch and animals reproduce. Specifically, bugs start to reproduce.

Infestations?

If your home is infested, you’re going to realize it pretty quickly in the springtime. Bugs that hibernate in the winter will come flooding out of the walls. That is a pretty terrifying thought, but there is a silver lining: if you aren’t overwhelmed by bugs in your home, chances are you don’t have a true infestation. Roaches, fruit flies, and ants in your house might be intimidating, but they are likely manageable.

Spring Cleaning

The easiest way to reduce the number of pests in your home is to make your home less inviting to them. Standing water, trash, and food being left out make a house more welcoming to creepy crawlies. If the nooks and crannies of your home are never dusted or tended to, bugs can find safe little hidey holes to hang out in. Take advantage of the new season to clean out your house. Throw away old junk. Move furniture and clean behind it. And if you really want to scare the bugs away, spray your house with peppermint. Many bigs can’t stand the scent of peppermint.

Friendly Bugs?

Not all bugs are created equal! An ant or a roach in your home is probably a problem. A spider or a centipede in your home is probably preventing one. As scary as spiders and centipedes can be, they are also voracious hunters. If you keep finding spiders in your home, be sure to check for other bugs that might be infesting your house. Spiders are more likely to stay out of a home if there is no food there. Centipedes in a crawlspace or basement should be left alone. Having a centipede there is your best defense against it being infested by other bugs.

Garden Buddies

If you’re a gardener, bugs are a welcome sight. Even the scary ones. Spiders and bees might be intimidating, but spiders keep flowers safe from more dangerous insects and bees help flowers grow. A beautiful garden needs them both. And if there is any time to start a garden, it’s springtime. So maybe bug season isn’t so bad after all!

Care Crate

Bugs might help out gardeners, but you can help the gardeners you care about even more. The Care Crate Co. has great gifts for getting a garden started, or improving a beloved garden you’ve already got going! And if your loved one needs a pick-me-up after a long marathon of spring cleaning, a beautiful housewarming gift could be a nice way to let them celebrate making their home look good as new.
