Build Your Own Spring First Aid Kit

Our Signature Green Care Package Box Will Come in Handy…

Spring is springing, birds are singing, bugs are…bugging. And kids will be kids, which means when they head outdoors as the weather warms, they’re going to get scratched. Stung. Bruised. Stuffy-nosed.

Be prepared for whatever happens by assembling a spring first aid kit that you can take along on your outdoor activities or stow in the closet until the need arises.

Grab a Care Package Box

One of our green snack boxes will hold the contents of your seasonal first aid kit. It’s perfect for the job because it’s small enough to fit on a shelf in your linen closet, but large enough to hold everything you’ll need.

Because it folds closed, you can stack on top of it, and you don’t need to reseal it with tape. It’s almost like we intentionally chose the most awesome box.

Get Started with our Personal Care Kit

The easiest way to start building your kit is by ordering our Personal Care Kit, which includes a travel-sized first aid kit with bandaids, cleansing wipes, and more. (This is also an ideal way to get the box you’ll put everything in!)

Although the contents of thie portable first-aid kit that’s in our care package isn’t enough for a full season, it’ll make do until you take an excursion to the store to stock up.

This small kit inside our care package includes:

  • Cleansing wipes
  • Gauze pads
  • Knuckle bandages
  • Large adhesive bandages
  • Standard-sized adhesive bandages
  • Latex gloves

You’ll also receive:

  • 3-ply face mask (disposable)
  • Cotton swabs
  • Facial tissue
  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Emergen-C

All of this should go into your kit.

Other Items to Buy

The American Red Cross recommends the following items in your first aid kit for spring:

  • Compress dressings
  • Adhesive cloth tape
  • Triple antibiotic ointment
  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Aspirin
  • Emergency blanket
  • Breathing barrier (for CPR)
  • Instant cold compress
  • An additional pair of gloves, preferably non-latex
  • Anti-itch cream
  • Gauze roll bandage
  • Regular roller bandage
  • Sterile gauze pads in two sizes
  • Tweezers

For the antibiotic ointment and anti-itch cream, it’s wise to buy a full-size tube because it’s likely you’ll get through it by the end of the summer.

If your family is prone to spring allergies, your favorite daily allergy medication and a powerful antihistamine are ideal inclusions in your kit. If you’re intending your spring first aid box to be portable, you might not need full bottles of these; a sample pack from the drug store will do the trick.

Or, you can upcycle an empty jar and fill it with the medication (and dosage information) you need. Consider adding an anti-inflammatory and fever reducer like acetaminophen, or the equivalent that your family prefers.

Our Suggestions for Your First Aid Kit

No good first aid kit is without snacks. Eating a snack can increase blood glucose for diabetics or hypoglycemics, and provide comfort for a child who’s been injured or just feeling hangry. (We’ve been there.)

We also think it’s wise to include a stash of sunscreen, just in case, and a burn lotion with lidocaine, in case of sunburn or any other accidental burn.

Because blisters happen, a product like moleskin, a type of padded bandage, is ideal to protect against pressure and rubbing. It works way better than a bandage, and can be applied to your skin or directly onto the inside of your shoe.

Will it Fit in Our Snack Box?

The answer is YES! Our green boxes hold a whole lot of stuff every day, which is why they’re an ideal size for your completed first aid kit.

When you’re done assembling your kit, we want to see it! Post a picture of it on Instagram, and tag us, @TheCareCrateCo!
