On July 4, we celebrate the birth of the United States of America, the day this country declared its freedom from English rule way back in 1776. The rocket’s red glare and bombs bursting in air from the Star-Spangled Banner have turned away from their Revolutionary War meanings, and today they could refer to the awe-inspiring fireworks shows typical of Independence Day.
